Our Story

Taupo Children’s Corner is privately owned by a local family trust, contracted to the Ministry of Education. It exists to give children and their families the best possible early learning and childcare experience.

Choosing an early childhood centre is an important decision and a big step in your child’s preschool experience.

We provide a caring and supportive environment for your child, where they will have a sense of belonging and be able to build positive relationships with all those around them.

We are rich in resources to stimulate, challenge and extend your child's learning through fun-filled activities based on the Early Childhood Curriculum, Te Whariki.

From baby to toddler and beyond, Taupo Children’s Corner gives your child continuous care with well organised programmes in a welcoming inclusive environment, inside and out.

History

The Passmore Family Trust was formed in 1994 with a passion and drive to create an early childhood education centre based on their own strong family foundation where children would thrive, grow and learn.  Since then, Taupo Children’s Corner, and the Trust’s legacy, has developed across two locations fulfilling that original vision and more.

Our policies

We encourage parent input into our policies, which are reviewed regularly and are avalaible for you to read.

Our Team

Our team of trained early childhood educators support a strong teaching team in the daily running of the centre programme.

Our teachers bring their own philosophy of education, early childhood experiences together to provide an extensive knowledge base creating a diverse learning environment.

This is supported by ongoing professional development within the team to maintain a current knowledge base within the early childhood sector -

  • As educators we recognise the importance of child-initiated learning alongside their peers and friends. We provide quality individual care, with focus on your child’s needs.

  • Within our environment we promote a strong sense of respect for people, places and physical surroundings.

  • We believe in respectful engagement so we invite children to engage with us, and wait to be invited to interact into the children’s play.

  • Agreement is shown through communication of your child’s cues and gestures and language.

  • Teachers work at the children’s pace

  • Children are offered choice in their care and education and offered support rather than an unnecessary intervention

  • Observations enable us to gain important knowledge about children’s individual requirements

  • We move in an unhurried, calm manner which helps create a peaceful environment for your child.

  • Children mirror behaviours that they see. Teachers role model by using calm a voice and movements, children can learn that this is what is expected of them.

  • We recognise children develop at their own rate. All children reach stages of development at different times. We believe that children will not take on a task until they are physically, mentally and emotionally ready to do it themselves.

  • Babies are placed on their back in a clear area for them to progress within their own capabilities.

  • Children are not placed into positions that they cannot get into themselves. e.g onto the bikes, swing and slides/climbing equipment. (We offer support, rather than intervene unnecessarily).

  • When children have differing values at home it can take some time to adjust to not being propped up etc, so this method of development may need to be introduced slowly.
